Snow fungus and red date soup [?????] to improve complexion

The star here is the Snow fungus [??], aka White fungus. It is well-known for its medicinal benefits among TCM practitioners and used widely in Chinese cooking. Some people call Snow fungus “the poor man’s birdnest” as the properties are similar to bird nest and its cost is much cheaper.

  • Snow fungus helps to improve your immune system: It is rich in both polysaccharides and glucan. These two elements turn your bad cells to good ones in your body, thus helping you to improve your immune system.
  • Snow fungus is good for digestion: It is high in dietary fibres and helps to control the bacteria in your intestines.
  • Snow fungus makes you look good: During your cycle you might look paler and this is where the key benefit of Snow fungus comes in – it contains a high level of plant collagen that helps to keep the skin hydrated and youthful.

We strongly recommend adding dried longans and ginkgo nuts into the mix.

Ingredients

  • 40 grams of Snow fungus [??]
  • 15 red dates [??] with the seed removed
  • 5 grams of wolfberries [??] (optional)

  2. Trim and discard the dark yellow, hard part on the underside of the fungus in the center.
  3. Cut the rest of the fungus into smaller pieces and set aside.
  4. In a soup pot, add 1.5-2 litres of water.
  5. Add in the Snow fungus, dried longan and red dates.

2.  Improves blood circulation with the golden pump soup [???????]

golden pump soup

This is the easiest recipe in this article to prepare, and it is also the most nourishing one for your body during your menstrual cycle.

Snow fungus is used again in this soup but this time, the star of the show is the Pumpkin. Pumpkin (??) is one of the most nutrient-rich foods out there. It is packed full of carotenoids, which includes both alpha-carotene and beta-carotene (some studies show that eating food with high carotenoids helps reduce the risk of cancer).

Most importantly, it is great for blood circulation and regulating blood flow due to its high potassium. Smoother flow of blood = less pain!

Ingredients

  • 500 grams of Chinese pumpkins [??]
  • 15 red dates [??] with the seed removed
  • A small amount of dark brown sugar [??] aka red sugar
  • 2 liters of water

You must be wondering what is the “??” mentioned in its name. “??” means double red and it represents using both Red dates and Red sugar in its recipe.

Instructions

  1. Slice off the skin of the pumpkin.
  2. Chop the pumpkin into cubes.
  3. Remove the seeds of the red dates.
  4. Put the chopped pumpkin and red dates into a soup pot.
  5. Add in 2 litres of water.
  6. Add in a small amount of dark brown sugar.
  7. Boil till the pumpkin is soft.

3.  After-cycle healing soup: Dang Gui with Red Dates Soup  [?????]

dang gui red dates soup

It is only meant to be consumed for three to four consecutive days after your period ends, and it is super easy to prepare. The main herb in this soup is Dang Gui [??]. It is a herb that is considered to be on the “heaty” side, and some would say it is more “Yang”, so it needs to be taken in moderate manner.

When you make a pot of this soup, you can keep it in the fridge and drink a cup each day.

Dang Gui is also known as the female Ginseng and is often used in remedies catered for ladies. One of its key benefits is to help nourish the uterus and regulate female hormones. Dang Gui can also be cooked with chicken broth, which supposedly triples the tonic’s blood-building quality while improving its flavour.

In our case, we are making it a more lightweight version which just involved the followings:

Ingredients

  • 3-4 slices of Dang Gui [??]
  • 8 red dates [??] with the seed removed
  • 1.5 – 2 litres of water
  • An egg (optional)
  • 15 grams of Dried longan [???] (optional)

Dang Gui is a bitter herb so adjust the amount red dates if you’d like it to be sweeter.

Instructions

  1. Add the Dang Gui and Red Dates, into a soup pot.
  2. Add in 2 litres of water.
  3. Bring to boil over high heat.
  4. After boiling, let it simmer for about 3 hours.
