I used to dread my period an awful lot. The main reason other than the cramps & discomfort Aunt Flo brings, it is in fact how I looked during the time of the month. Pale, pimply, dark eye circles, and dull skin texture… Sounds familiar? I had all of them! The worst part was, my tolerance for period discomfort significantly lowered when I looked at myself in the mirror! Luckily for me, those days are now gone…
Being a beauty blogger brings about perks of acquiring new beauty knowledge and trying amazing beauty products. Here I will share five simple tips on how to look good & radiant even when you’re having your period:
Hydrate your skin by masking BEFORE & DURING your period
Breakouts are common during menses due to our fluctuating hormones, and the number one mistake that ladies tend to make to combat breakouts is to overuse oil-control skincare. The cause of oily skin is sometimes due to water & oil balance being toppled, so remember: the more hydrated your skin is, the less oil & sebum it will produce = the less breakouts you will experience! So give your skin a treat by using masks before and during your period to make sure that your skin gets all the hydration it needs to keep those pesky blemishes at bay!
Use facial blotters or one ply of tissue paper to blot off excess facial oil
Skin tends to get oilier during our menses and I’m sure we don’t want to look like an oil slick by midday. Instead of patting on more powder (and risk clogging your pores!), just dab off excess oil with one ply of tissue paper. Tissues are both effective and wallet friendly, which make them a great alternative to your normal oil blotters! But, if you really need to use blotters, note that they should be used minimally – at most two per day, so avoid stripping your skin of its natural oils, which may in turn cause even more breakouts.
Drink warm red date tea
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, red dates are believed to nourish the blood and improve blood circulation. Not to mention, drinking a cup of warm red date tea with added ginger also brings some relief for cramps. If looking like the undead during your period is the last thing on your to-do list, try chopping some red dates into your cup and add boiling water. This will rejuvenate your skin, and restore the glow to your skin. But if that is a hassle for you, there are instant red date tea sachets available at the supermarket, making this a super easy way to make sure your skin looks flawless even during that time of month! Catch up on your beauty sleep.
I’m sure that this point is a no-brainer, but despite this, many of us still stay up late, depriving our skin of its much needed beauty rest. And really, nothing else you do can make up for your lack of sleep especially during such a crucial time of the month. Your skin regenerates new cells and heals itself when you rest! So put your work aside and climb into bed early; not only will your skin look better, but you’ll feel much so much better in the morning too!
Invest in a bold red lipstick
Yes, if all else fails, this last tip will save your face! Find a red lippie that works for your skin tone. Not only will this distract from any blemishes, but there is just something about putting on a bold red lip that makes you feel like a million bucks. So slap some sexy scarlet on (draw some black eyeliner too, if you’re feeling up to it!), lift your head up high and ROCK ON!
