Weird Korean Beauty Products

Ever heard of face masks made from donkey milk? Or pig collagen? Neither have I! Today, let’s find out some of the weirdest Korean beauty products that are said to be the holy grail for some. You may think it’s gross and disgusting, but some people swear by it.

1. Cheese Face Cream

Fancy some mozzarella cheese for your face? Thankfully this cream doesn’t smell like cheese. The cream is actually made from whey, a main ingredient involved in making cheese. Whey is a natural protein that contains lactic acid, therefore the cream is prized for its moisturizing and anti-aging properties. The texture of the cream is just like mozzarella – stringy and bouncy.

2. Snail Slime

Now you may know snails can become escargots, but I bet you would never imagine snails as beauty products! Snail slime is very popular with the Koreans, because of their ability to help with skin regeneration and repair (it’s scientifically and dermatologically proven!). The Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence is made from, you guessed it, snail mucus with a 96% snail secretion filtrate for super intense hydration and repair. It is said to be able to repair dry skin and acne! It’s texture is just like gooey slime. We know it sounds disgusting, but who knows! Give it a try and let us know!

3. Pig Collagen Masks

Yup you read it right! Pig collagen! Every girl knows that collagen is a superb ingredient to keep your skin looking firm and taut. So now you have a mask made from pig collagen! (But we’re quite sure it won’t smell anything like…pigs.) The Hollika Hollika Pig Collagen Jelly Mask Sheet is made from 10,000 ppm of pig collagen. Pig collagen is supposedly like human collagen, so it will help to keep your skin hydrated and retain the elasticity, providing you with soft, supple skin. Just use it like how you would use a normal sheet mask!

4. Donkey Milk Sleeping Pack

Who knew donkey milk could be used as a beauty product right? We know what you’re thinking, we couldn’t believe it as well. Imselene makes Donkey Milk Sleeping Mask Packs and you’re supposed to apply it onto your face and leave on overnight. They’ve even provided a mini brush for easier application. This donkey milk mask helps with skin repair, pore shrinking, as well as increasing skin elasticity. It also reduces fine lines! So with all that benefits, applying some donkey milk on your face might be well worth it, don’t you think so?

5. Gel Lip Patch

This gel patch has been shaped like a lip because it is for your lip! It’s a mask that’s been formulated for the lips. Notice how the Koreans always have such soft, pink lips? Well this might very well be their secret. Lip scrubs may be too harsh for some, so this gel patch will be perfect! It helps to get rid of the dead skin on your lips and also hydrates and moisturizes for softer lips. It’s probably the least weird product on the list to use, because it doesn’t contain any weird ingredients, just a nice, typical, cherry flavour. Simply leave the product on your lips for 10-15 minutes and massage the remaining essence into your lips.

6. Salmon Eggs Face Cream

It may look weird to some, but it sure looks cute too! These “salmon eggs” are actually capsules made from salmon caviar extract to help combat aging. The product has a firming effect, and helps to smoothen the skin and reduce wrinkles. It contains adenosine, which helps to stimulate the synthesis of collagen. To use it, take 2 “eggs” and spread them all over your face. Alternatively, you can use it as a sleeping pack – just use 3 eggs instead.

7. Bubble Clay Mask

This mask has been all the hype. Just do a search on YouTube and you’ll see many people’s review on this product. It is actually a clay mask that bubbles into foam. The texture is very interesting and I think what entices people to try out this product is the fun of it. Other than fun, this product is also packed with goodness such as charcoal powder, which penetrates pores and help to remove impurities. It also tightens pores and is good for oily skin as it helps to control excess sebum. This is probably the only product on this list that serves a purpose other than anti-aging or wrinkle-removing. We think that this product is definitely worth a try. Even if it doesn’t work, it’s fun! Make your skincare routine a fun one!

8. Rubber Masks

You’ve seen Kim Kardashian wearing latex. Now you’ll see women with rubber face masks on the sofa of your living room. Together with the mask is a small tub of ampoule, which you spread all over your face before putting the mask on. There’re 4 different masks for different purposes and while the mask itself is weird, we found nothing weird in the ingredients list. They’re basically your normal mask ingredients, such as strawberry/blueberry extract and so on. So will rubber masks be the next big thing? Seems like it’s a trend that’s catching on!

There we have the top weirdest Korean skincare products. While we aren’t sure if they’re as effective as they’re weird, we have to admit that some of them are quite creative. We also noticed that a lot of the products are focused on anti-aging and wrinkle-removing – we’re not sure if they actually will do what they’re supposed to, or whether it’s just a ploy. If you’ve tried any of the products, or know of more weird/gimmicky products, do leave us a comment! Hope you had fun reading and finding out some of the weirdest products!
